Trail Highlights
A fun, slow-motion rollercoaster ride through the classic desert hill country, offering fun 4-wheeling, consisting of tippy crevices, soft sand, and steep climbs and descents through saguaro-studded hills and granite canyons. Great panoramic views of Scottsdale’s famous boulder hills and the Four Peaks in the distance. This trail connects to the popular Camp Creek Wash, which is an easy trip to Needle Rock at the Verde River. Open year-round, though not recommended in summer due to heat.
Rating
Adventurous 6. The two-mile section of the loop leading to The Chute is the most technical. Go as far as comfortable or return the way you came.
Length
6-1/2 miles off-pavement (about 3 miles in 4L). Allow 2 hours.
Vehicles:
Recommended for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles with low range transfer cases (4L) and flexible suspension. Easy for stock JK Rubicons. Rigid-suspension vehicles will pull tires off the ground, and therefore a traction device and/or experienced driver are recommended for such vehicles. Long and/or wide vehicles will have difficulty with tight brush and sharp turns.
