Trail Highlights
One of the most scenic drives in the west! Follow this historic wagon trail to the top of the Mogollon Rim for spectacular views of red rock country. Bumpy, rutty, cobbly old road with no guard rails, but easy to drive in a Jeep. The Volcanic Loop is rough and rocky, suitable only for high-clearance 4x4’s with tough tires and drivers with tough kidneys. The Loop is closed December 15 through April 1. The upper two miles of this road (above Merry-Go-Round rock) is often closed during the winter.

Easy 2. (Optional Volcanic Rim Loop, Moderate 5.)
Length
12 miles off-pavement. Allow 2 hours. (Add 2 miles and 1 hour for optional Volcanic Rim Loop.)
Vehicles
Schnebly Hill Road is recommended for high-clearance vehicles with tough tires. For the optional Volcanic Rim Loop, it is recommended to have a high-clearance 4x4 with low range transfer case (4L) and a driver who knows how to pick over 12-15” rocks.
